The talk of a very low cost tablet with the all the latest features, has been doing rounds for quite a while now, and this finally-a-reality tablet is known as Aakash tablet, which is expected to further strengthen the incredible image of India. Till a few months back, this enticing product of Datawind, had made its way to only 366 hands whereas the promise was to make at least 100000 tablets available to the customers who placed the order for the tablet. Following the fiasco of the original Aakash tablet, the Indian government announced plans, and finally launched the Aakash 2.
Million are hoping that the device would be made available in the Indian markets in th eenear future, as the features and specification it promises to offer, are simply unbelievable for the price; it will undoubtedly be one of the cheapest tablet PCs in the world, if it’s successfully produced at a mass scale.
But, the million dollar question is – when would this gem of a tablet will really be made available in the market?
It is being speculated that on 28 Nov, 2012, Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of Datawind, is going to present the Aakash 2 at the Headquarters of the UN. The presence of UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon is also expected to be present during the show. The Indian permanent representative to the UN, Hardeep Singh Puri, has also praised the tablet as the lowest-priced tablet ever offered by an Indian entrepreneur – he termed it as a “frugal innovation.”
The aim of this presentation, apart from promoting the tablet, will be to provide few members with this new device. Looking at the way Indian Government is preparing for this event, following the official announcement, we hope that the Indian student population, who are the beneficiaries of this device, will get their hands on this tablet soon!
We know that the Aakash 2 boasts a 1 GHz processor, a SIM slot for mobile connectivity, a capacitive touchscreen of 7 inches width and a good battery back-up of at least 4 hours. The device will run on Android 4.0 and costs around Rs 1130 for Indian students, which is its main USP – something perhaps Karbonn and other manufacturers might fail to beat in near future!
